Juveniles arrested for alleged residential break-in
Two 14-year-old Penn Valley boys were arrested after allegedly breaking into a residence, stealing items and trying to hot-wire a truck to make their getaway.
A couple in the 18000 block of Siesta Drive returned home at about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday to find one of the boys allegedly sitting in their truck, said Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal.
The boy fled the scene, Royal said.
The homeowners saw that the ignition to the truck had been “torn apart” and evidence that the would-be burglars had been inside their house — including a lighter and some marijuana residue on a counter top.
“They broke into the locked house, took items, put them in the unlocked truck and then tried to hot-wire it,” Royal said.
Deputies searching for the suspects located the two boys walking along the side of the road on Rough and Ready Highway a little after 10 p.m., according to dispatch reports.
One boy was cited on suspicion of burglary, tampering with a vehicle and criminal conspiracy and released to a grandparent. The other was arrested on suspicion of burglary, tampering with a vehicle, criminal conspiracy, violating probation and an outstanding warrant. He also had been listed as a runaway, according to dispatch reports.
