Jim Reed will run for Dan Logue’s state assembly seat in District 3.
Reed, a Democrat from Fall River Mills, faced off against U.S. Congressman Doug LaMalfa in 2012 for the District seat, but was ultimately defeated by the rice farmer.
Reed also mounted an ultimately unsuccessful campaign against Wally Herger in 2012. He managed 43 percent of the vote in both races.
Despite those losses, Reed believes the 3rd district is winnable.
“The 3rd Assembly District only has a narrow registered Republican advantage over Democrats in contrast to the large margin in the Congressional District in which he ran,” states a news release issued by Reed’s camp Monday.
Republicans Ryan Schohr of Butte County and James Gallagher of Sutter County have also declared for the race.
Logue formerly represented Nevada County before redistricting prompted him to run for District 3.
Logue has reached his maximum term limit as an assemblyman.
District 3 encompasses most of Butte County, Sutter, Yuba, Glenn and Tehama counties and a small part of Colusa County.
