A Nevada City man who accidentally locked keys inside a car Friday in Sausalito was arrested on drug allegations after the mishap led police to 2 pounds of marijuana.
Brandon Henslee, 27, was booked into jail on suspicion of drug violations. He was released on bail pending further review by the district attorney’s office.
The incident occurred at about 10:30 a.m., when police received a report of three men with neck tattoos and shaved heads apparently trying to break into a car, said Sausalito Police Lt. Kurtis Skoog.
Police identified one of the men as Henslee and determined he was on probation for a prior gun-related conviction. Because of the probation, police could search him and his property without a warrant, which led to the discovery of the drugs in his car, Skoog said.
Police also found a small amount of suspected methamphetamine and alleged smoking paraphernalia.
The other men were not arrested. Police determined that they were in Sausalito to look at a car for sale, accidentally locked the keys in the car and were using a “Slim Jim” device to try to unlock a door.
