To offer resources for building healthy relationships and to work with community partners to provide services for healing the effects of interpersonal violence.

What is your nonprofit’s history?

DVSAC has served Western Nevada County in Northern California since 1978, first as a community group — the Battered Women’s Alliance — and since 1980 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.

Initially known as the Domestic Violence Coalition, it was formed to offer crisis intervention and safe housing services to the victims of domestic violence and their families in Nevada County. Within a few years, DVSAC also began offering counseling and advocacy services to survivors of sexual assault.

Victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and their families

List the biggest achievements in your nonprofit’s history:

1. Emergency shelter addition to our services in 2000

2. Development of a strong Prevention and Outreach program over the last 10 years

List the biggest challenges you face:

1. We continue to seek and secure funds to stabilize services

2. We wish to expand our shelter to be able to provide more bed nights for those clients and families that need emergency housing

What is your No. 1 short-term goal for the next year?

Establish mental health collaborations in our community to better serve our clients who struggle with interpersonal violence and the mental health challenges that often coincide.

What is your No. 1 long-term goal for the next three years?

Expand our emergency shelter space and capabilities
