Eco-friendly coffee cups on hand for Wild & Scenic


Repurpose Compostables, creator of premium, eco-friendly food service products, based in Los Angeles, has partnered with the South Yuba River Citizens League’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival through Monday, as the official compostable sponsor.

Repurpose will help reduce the carbon footprint at the 11th annual festival by eliminating single-use plastics and Styrofoam and replacing them with greener, compostable alternatives, according to a news release.

As a Chinook Salmon Sponsor, Repurpose will support the Wild & Scenic mission to educate and inspire eco-activism among festival-goers in the historic downtown of Nevada City by providing compostable cutlery, cups, plates and bowls. All festival-sponsored food and beverage will be served in the Repurpose products, which are made entirely from plant-based material, requiring three to four times less C02 to produce and able to be composted in 90 days in an industrial composter, the release states.

In addition to handing out coffee in the “world’s greenest coffee cup,” Repurpose will outfit the festival with custom Repurpose Compostable collection bins that will outline the benefits of composting and raise green awareness while completing the ideal life cycle of the cups by returning them to the earth. This illustrates the perfect closed-loop system that Repurpose products represent.

The theme for the 2013 festival is “A Climate of Change.” In an effort to make a difference, Repurpose will support the festival’s eco efforts and green changes. Wild & Scenic is encouraging festival-goers to reduce their carbon footprint by riding bikes, taking public transportation, bringing reusable bags and using the recycling and composting collection bins. Signs will be posted to educate patrons on separating recyclables and compostables, helping the festival get as close to zero waste as possible.

Repurpose products are available in Nevada City and the Sacramento area at all Raley’s Markets, Bel Air Markets and Nob Hill Foods.
