AAUW invites community members to discuss cyber-bullying

At its Jan. 16 meeting, members of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Nevada County are inviting community members to learn about the devastating effect that cyber-bullying has on its victims.

Using Facebook, Twitte and email, bullies can harass their victims 24 hours a day.

The meeting will feature Marlene Mahurin, a credentialed teacher and family life educator who says that “in today’s digital world, cyber-bullying and ‘sexting’ have reached epidemic proportions.” Mahurin is a Nevada County resident and is tapped in to the local situation and what is currently being done about it.

Members of the community are invited to attend, including students who are in the sixth grade or older and accompanied by their parents. The meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 16 at Peace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley.
