Firewood explosions prompt warnings

Officers with the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office are warning residents to examine their firewood before burning it, to ensure it hasn’t been tampered resulting in an explosion. At approximately 10 a.m. Thursday, an 82-year-old Nevada County man called from his home on the 11000 of La Barr Meadows Road to report that two small explosions emanated from his fireplace, according to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office dispatch logs.
