The Coaliton of Animal Welfare and Support, is sponsoring the Nevada County Animal Control Officer of the Year Award for 2012, which will be given at a banquet 6 p.m. Friday at the Holbrooke Hotel. “The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding efforts by Animal Control officers and to encourage a high level of professionalism and care for animal welfare,” CAWS Director Kathy Monteiro said in a news release. CAWS has formed partnerships with the district attorney’s office to encourage the prosecution of animal abuse cases and with Nevada County Animal Control to offer community assistance and support. …
