An investigation continues into the death of Ayaz Ali, a 41-year-old airman from Beale Air Force Base, who was found dead Friday afternoon by CalTrans workers after an apparent single-vehicle accident.
Nevada County Coroner Paul Schmidt said his office expects an autopsy report and toxicology tests to take about four months to process.
Ali had been stationed at Beale Air Force Base since June of 2011, where he worked as a technical sergeant in the 9th Maintenance Squadron, according to a news release issued by Beale AFB.
Ali went missing Nov. 13, and two days later, a search and rescue team comprised of members from the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, the Air Force Special Investigations and the California Highway Patrol scoured an area near the intersection of Mooney Flat Road and Highway 20, outside of Smartsville.
Ali was found in close proximity to his crashed vehicle near the intersection of Wild Turkey Lane and Highway 20 at about 4 p.m. Friday.
“Beale Air Force Base will continue to work with local and regional law enforcement agencies to identify the cause of death, which is under investigation at this time,” the news release stated.
