John Turner

John T. Turner stepped into the reality of eternal life Oct. 28, 2012. He was 90.

A memorial mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at St. Patrick’s Church, 235 Chapel St., Grass Valley, Calif. A celebration of his life will follow at Eskaton Lodge, 625 Eskaton Court, Grass Valley. All who knew John are welcome to attend and celebrate with us.

John was born Feb. 20, 1922, and was accompanied into this world by his identical twin brother and closest friend, Jim. John resided for the last three years at Eskaton Village in Grass Valley, where he was loved by the residents and workers. Prior to that he lived in Oceanside, Calif., for 25 years where he still has many friends.

John spent 20 years in the US Navy and retired in 1960 as a senior chief aviation machinist mate. His primary job in the Navy was as the flight engineer on planes that carried VIPs, such as CNO, CINCPACFLT and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In that capacity, he was able to visit places around the globe and even attended the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

His second career was as a technical rep for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. This job allowed him to live overseas in India and Japan, as well as various locales stateside, accompanied by his loving wife. John’s favorite pastimes were golfing and fishing, especially with his twin brother, Jim. He and his wife, Betty, had countless friends from years past. They kept their friends forever.

He is survived by his son, John (Linda) Turner, of Nevada City, Calif.; granddaughter Cara Weichman of Newport Beach; Talia Dalton of Phoenix; two great-grandchildren; and his twin brother, Jim Turner, and family. He also will be sorely missed by his two “grand-dogs,” Phoebe and Hank.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Hospice of the Foothills.
