Suicide victim found at rest stop

A driver who stopped at the Omega rest stop on Highway 20 found an apparent suicide victim early Thursday evening. Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the rest area at 5:30 p.m. after receiving a call of a man with a gunshot wound. The witness said he did not hear a gunshot, but found the man lying face-down with a .38-caliber revolver next to him, said Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Tripp. The man possibly appeared alive, so the witness moved the gun, Tripp said. The man was pronounced dead by paramedics just after 6 p.m. “A suicide note was left,” …
