Grass Valley man killed in Highway 49 accident

A fatality was reported at a traffic incident on Highway 49 at La Barr Meadows Road, south of Grass Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victim was a 91-year-old man from Grass Valley, said CHP spokesman Marc Morrison.

His identity had not been released as of press time.

The accident occurred at 12:37 p.m.

A 95-year-old woman from Grass Valley was driving a Camaro northbound, and as she approached the intersection, she saw the man “scurrying across the road, right in front of her car,” Morrison said.

The woman tried to brake but hit the man with the front of her car, Morrison said.

The man was killed on impact due to head trauma, Morrison said; the woman was uninjured.

All lanes were blocked for a period of time with the southbound traffic proceeding on the shoulder of the road; northbound traffic was diverted off La Barr Meadows Road and back onto the highway at McKnight Way.
