South county schools, water and fire district forum tonight

The South Nevada County Chamber of Commerce will host a town hall meeting from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, at the Higgins Lions Community Center located at 22490 East Hacienda Dr. (near Lake of the Pines).

Appearing at the forum will be candidates from the races of the Pleasant Ridge Union School District Board of Directors, Nevada Irrigation District Division 3 and the Higgins Area Fire Protection District.

Also appearing will be a group promoting Measure K, a local tax would raise annual rate of the per parcel tax by $92 to all land parcels within the boundaries of Pleasant Ridge School District for five years.

All of the candidates have agreed to participate in the event except for one candidate for the Higgins Fire Board — he has declined.

Each candidate will have 5 minutes to introduce themselves and speak to the audience. After each candidate has spoken, the moderator will ask questions of each candidate that come from the audience. These questions will be gathered at the beginning of the event and screened ahead of time. This process will continue with each of the three groups running for office — one group at a time.

Eric Sams, past-president of the South Nevada County Chamber and current president of the Rotary Club of Nevada County South, will moderate the event.
