Short-handed Bear River turns in strong performance

Despite being down some runners, the Bear River cross country team turned in some strong individual performances as many personal records (PRs) were registered at Granite Regional Park in Sacramento.

Bear River raced “The Other Meet” with Olivia Kirks being the first Lady Bruin to cross the finish line in the frosh/soph race. She finished in ninth place with a time of 15:49 and a new PR.

For the boys, freshman Patrick Gillis continued to show why he is a rising star for Bear River as he finished the 2.2-mile course in 13:47.

For the varsity girls, junior Sierra Mitchell led the squad with a top-15 finish, crossing the line with a new PR of 21:02.

Next up for the Bruins is the second Pioneer Valley League meet Wednesday at Colfax.

In a matchup between Sierra Foothill League rivals Friday, the Lady Miners avenged an earlier loss to Bear River by topping the Lady Bruins by two.

Nicole Blaney led the Lady Miners with four goals, Hayley Chase added a pair of goals, Quinlan Grim netted two, and Robyn Fernandez scored one.
