Since it premiered on Broadway in 1949, "Death of a Salesman" has been widely acknowledged as one of the finest American dramas ever written.
It has been read by millions and produced to great acclaim on stages throughout the world over the past 62 years. Now, Sierra Stages brings the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic to life from Jan. 25 through Feb. 12 at the Nevada Theatre, 401 Broad St., Nevada City. Jeffrey Mason directs the timeless tale of Willy Loman, struggling salesman and family man.
"Death of a Salesman" is Arthur Miller's unrivaled masterpiece. It delves into the heart of the American dream, depicting salesman Willy Loman in the twilight of his career. His two grown sons have not achieved the success that Willy envisioned, and his own hard-earned career is crumbling. Despite his wife's unfaltering support, Willy cannot reconcile his ideal of the perfect all-American life with what has actually come to pass.

"Death of a Salesman" features award-winning local actor, Robert Rossman as Willy, Susan Mason as his wife and Sam Haley-Hill and Josh Triplett as his two sons. Other members of the cast are Amanda Baskett, Lois Ewing, Amy Galloway, Michael Hoff, Brandon Johnson, Michael Moerman, Thomas Taylor and Thomas Wolfe. The production staff includes Pamela Mengers Hodges (set design), Erin Beatie (lighting design) and Eileen Beaver (costume design). With "Death of a Salesman," Sierra Stages begins its fourth season of presenting quality, award-winning, theatre in western Nevada County. The 2012 season includes two other shows: The classic American musical, "The Music Man" at the Nevada Theatre from July 12 through Aug. 4, and Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman's "Assassins" at the Off Center Stage from Oct. 25 through Nov. 17. Consistent with its mission to offer affordable community theatre, Sierra Stages also is offering a show season pass for all three shows for $50. "Death of a Salesman" plays Wednesday, Jan. 25 through Sunday, Feb. 12m with performances at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 7 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays (Feb. 5 and Feb. 12). Tickets are $20 general admission, $18 all performances if purchased before Jan. 27, reserved seating $30 all performances. Student rush tickets (18 and under with presentation of full-time student ID) are available for $15 on a first-come, unreserved basis, 30 minutes prior to curtain.
