This week’s meeting of the Grass Valley City Council will deal with several aspects of the city’s economic well-being, including a presentation from City Manager Bob Richardson on recruiting businesses and attracting tourism to this area.
Richardson’s presentation will also deal with balancing the budget in the face of a $2 million revenue shortfall predicted over the next five years. The city will also hear requests for a total of $60,000 in funding to help support a variety of projects, including the Economic Resource Council’s “Royal Welcome Initiative,” the Grass Valley Downtown Association’s annual downtown guide and downtown directional signage, as well as the Visitors Center and Jeep tours run by the Greater Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce.
In other business, city staff is recommending that the council pass a resolution imposing a special assessment of $9,681.20 on downtown Grass Valley’s Gold Rush Burgers. That sum includes $3,000 in fines and $6,681.20 in administrative costs associated with nuisance abatement and a “multitude of code violations related to the building, fire and zoning codes …”
Documents indicate that Gold Rush may also be facing additional fines of $1,000 per day associated with four specific violations — but those fines do not appear to be reflected in the $9,681.20 total.
