No gunman found at Colfax schools

Placer County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Dena Erwin has reported that no gunman or guns were found during an extensive search of Colfax schools this afternoon.

“The search is complete at the Colfax schools,” she said. “Students are being released from school. There was no gunman or guns found on the campuses.”

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office was at Colfax Elementary School, where three first-grade students reported seeing a man wearing a black mask and carrying a long gun and a handgun, at about 1 p.m. The students said the man was walking in the soccer field, toward Colfax Elementary School. A perimeter was immediately set up and both the elementary school and nearby Colfax High were placed on lockdown. Multiple agencies were assisting the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

T”he Placer County Sheriff’s Office was greatly assisted by many allied agencies during this event,” Erwin said. “The CHP, Rocklin and Auburn police departments, Office of Emergency Services, CalFire, Roseville Fire and AMR ambulance were all a vital part of making this a safe operation. We had two helicopters assisting, one from CHP and Placer County Sheriff’s Office’s.”
