Nevada City man faces multiple methamphetamine charges

Narcotics officers arrested 41-year-old Jesse Sanchez Alvarado of Nevada City Tuesday night after reportedly finding a bag of drugs hidden behind the backseat of his car.

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office set up a surveillance team near the Quail Creek Road exit on Highway 49 after a report of possible drug-related activity in the area Tuesday.

Alvarado was stopped by police around 8 p.m. while driving north in a 1991 blue Mazda hatchback. He was detained after police reportedly found 28 grams of methamphetamine in a bag strapped behind the passenger side of the vehicle’s backseat. Also found in the passenger side glove box was a smoking pipe and a brown lunch bag full of small plastic bags, which police said are commonly used to sell drugs.

Alvarado was on probation after being arrested for a domestic violence charge in January, Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal said.

Alvarado is charged with three counts of possession, distribution and transportation of a controlled substance. He is being held on $45,000 bail.
