Teen reportedly found with drugs, shotgun in Grass Valley

A 19-year-old Grass Valley man ended up in jail Friday morning after reportedly being found with a variety of drugs and a shotgun in his vehicle.

Joseph Lawrence McCormack reportedly was pulled over on the side of the road near Brunswick and Idaho-Maryland roads at about 3:40 a.m., and a deputy on patrol pulled over to see if he was OK, said Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal.

There was a .22-gauge shotgun in the vehicle, Royal said.

A search of McCormack ensued, and he was found to have a shotgun shell in his pocket, as well as two baggies of suspected Ecstasy and several pills — amitriptyline (Elavil) and Lyrica (typically prescribed for neuropathy) — that had been prescribed to someone else, Royal said.

“He said he found the baggies when he was looking for scrap metal and it didn’t belong to him,” Royal said.

Several containers of hash oil were reportedly found in the vehicle.

He was booked into county jail on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, possessing concentrated cannabis and possessing a controlled substance without a prescription and was released on $10.750 bail.
