Washington man arrested in suspected rape

A Washington man was arrested Wednesday after reportedly raping a Grass Valley woman. He was booked into county jail and released within hours on $100,000 bail.

The woman, who is not being identified, called the Grass Valley Police Department Tuesday morning to report having been sexually assaulted by the man, who was identified as Rama Gandhi Taylor, 38.

“She had met the suspect about two weeks ago in town,” said Sgt. Steve Johnson. “They had begun to see each other.”

On Monday evening, the woman said she went to dinner with Taylor and then both went back to her residence, where he reportedly raped her.

There had been no sexual relationship between the two prior to the alleged assault, Johnson said.

A detective contacted Taylor in Washington and took him into custody on suspicion of rape after obtaining evidence that supported the victim’s claim, Johnson said.
