NCTV Talk: 8 winning scripts, authors announced for Thru the Lens
May 18, 2017
NCTV's short script/short film fundraiser has entered its second stage. The screenplay writing competition, the first phase of "Thru the Lens 2017," has ended, and the winners were announced on May 7. The following are the eight winning scripts, along with their authors:
Michael Penwarden —"Parallax"
Sarah Poynter — "Pause"
Annie Keeling — "Five Bars"
Anna Morton— "The Ballad of Cheese Lewis"
Donna Cobb — "Pink Power"
Karen Busse — "Legacy of Love"
Mila Johansen — "Lost & Found"
Isaac Biggs — "A Defining Moment"
Congratulations to the winners, and congratulations to all who entered. Everyone is a winner with this competition, because they are now the proud authors of a completed screenplay … no small accomplishment.
The script submissions were judged anonymously by a panel of local professionals in the performing arts and publishing industries. The criteria used to judge the screenplays included creativity, originality, and overall storyline. The talent displayed in these winning scripts is impressive. Nevada County residents are in for a treat when they get the chance to view the scripts-turned-to-films at Thru the Lens' grand finale: the Red Carpet Gala Screening in October.
Before a screening can happen, these winning screenplays must be transformed into ten-minute motion pictures, and that takes a village! This is why NCTV is holding an open Cast & Crew Call on Saturday, June 3, from 1 to 5 p.m. at NCTV's studios, located at 104 New Mohawk Road in Nevada City.
This is an open call for actors, directors, camera people, musicians, boom operators, editors, and assorted crew. Anyone interested in the filmmaking process is invited to get involved. This is an opportunity to meet the screenplay winners, review the scripts, and sign up to be considered for the cast or crew of a film production. As a reminder: this is an all-volunteer event and a fundraiser for NCTV. Those attending should bring a current resume and a head shot (to be considered for an acting role). Come prepared for an impromptu audition if you wish to be cast in one of the films. Winning films from previous years will be screened, and refreshments will be available.
The Cast & Crew Call is free, and all ages are invited to attend. Films will begin production in June. All post-production/editing must be complete in time for the Red Carpet Gala in October.
"Thru the Lens 2017: A Script-to-Silver Screen Event" is a fundraiser for Nevada County Television and Digital Media Center. For additional questions, call: 530-273-8324 or email: email@example.com.
