Nevada City Film Festival calls for submissions
April 1, 2013
The Nevada City Film Festival announced this week that submissions are open for the 13th annual film festival.
Happening Sept. 5-8, the festival features the best in independent film, music and comedy and attracts locals, international filmmakers and industry guests to Nevada City.
The Nevada City Film Festival has been called the "Sundance of the Sierras" for its emphasis on fiercely independent cinema that showcases innovative, progressive and exciting new voices in film. In previous years, the film festival has hosted filmmakers such as Mike Mills, Miranda July, Jonathan Krisel ("Portlandia"), Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim and comedians including Nick Kroll (FX's "The League," and Comedy Central's "Nick Kroll Show"), Natasha Leggero ("Chelsea Lately"), and Eric Andre (Adult Swim). Past Nevada City Film Festival judges have included award-winning producers and directors, plus writers from The Huffington Post, New York Times, McSweeneys, San Francisco Chronicle, Rolling Stone Magazine and Arthur Magazine.
Professional, student and amateur filmmakers are invited to submit their short films (40 minutes and less). Last year, the festival featured more than 90 shorts and 10 feature lengths from across the globe. The festival also presents a Local Filmmakers Showcase, along with a children-specific program. New to this year will be a special repertory program that will screen iconic and classic films.
The Nevada City Film Festival takes pride in its renowned hospitality and works hard to ensure that filmmakers have a one-of-a-kind experience when visiting. The festival creates an easy and intimate forum of exchange and interaction between filmmakers and supportive and enthusiastic audiences. In-competition filmmakers also receive travel and accommodations to attend the film festival, and every exhibiting filmmaker receives an all-access pass to screenings and events.
All short films are eligible for the Festival Jury Award of $1,500 and the Audience Choice Award of $500.
Submission fee is waived for local filmmakers living in Nevada, Placer, Sierra and Yuba counties. Please contact festival directors at firstname.lastname@example.org for information.
Regular deadline is May 1. Extended late deadline is June 14. Save and submit early. All filmmakers will be notified by July 15.
Submissions must be sent online through Withoutabox, for the link and additional information please go to http://nevadacityfilmfestival.com or call 530-362-8601.
