The Nevada Union High School Debate program is dedicated to building a strong and successful debate community, providing classes, coaching and opportunities for competitive debate in local, state and national tournaments.
Long the domain of private schools, NU debate is determined to create a rural, public high school debate program that rivals the well-funded and highly supported private school debate teams.
Students gain college level research skills, learn persuasive argument and effective public speaking and enhance their critical reading and thinking skills.
Debate students have a proven track record of academic excellence with acceptance and scholarships at colleges and universities such as Stanford, Whitman, Brown, Deep Springs and many more.
Nevada Union High School does not have the funds to sustain the financial requirements of this program.
Nevada Union Debate Boosters Club is an all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to supporting the debate team with financial resources, professional skills, transportation requirements and overall enthusiasm.
The Nevada County Bar Association is a committed supporter of the debate team, its students and the Boosters.
