A European-esque New Year's party

Those looking to celebrate the New Year in European fashion but who just can’t make it across the pond can get the experience closer to home.

Trio Nouveau Chapeaux (Maggie McKaig and Luke Wilson from Nevada City favorites, the award-winning Beaucoup Chapeaux, along with frequent Chapeaux collaborator Margot Duxler) will provide the enchanting acoustic music from France, Italy and the Balkan Peninsula on violin, accordion and tenor guitar to set the mood.

Genevieve Crouzet will prepare a prix-fixe menu with an array of European dishes to choose from. Choice of appetizers includes onion gratinée soup, or organic greens salad with blue cheese pear and candied walnuts, or avocado with crab and caviar.

Choice of entrees includes coquille St. Jacques with asperges (scallops in the half shell with side asparagus); moules frites (mussels in a white wine sauce with French fries); or coq au vin with haricots verts (chicken in wine with green beans).

For vegetarians, a quiche florentine with champignon a la crème (mushrooms in cream sauce). Dessert will be the classic French mousse au chocolat.

There will be two seatings, at 5 p.m., and at 8 p.m. Call the Classic Café for reservations and more information, at 530-265-9440. The café is located at 216 Broad St. in Nevada City.
