Nevada Union High School Theatrical Dance presents its second annual production, “Fall for Dance,” an innovative lecture/demonstration of choreography by the advanced dancers in the department.
The intimate setting of the NUHS Dance Room offers a unique and up-close experience for the audience.
“Fall for Dance” includes a variety of dance styles, including jazz, modern, character and hip-hop. The show will also provide a glimpse at a new work in progress being created for the department’s upcoming spring dance production in 2014.
Artistic Director Courtney Wadman will discuss each of the works presented and the dance curriculum offered at the high school.
The performance will also include a selection of student choreography projects inspired by famous dance choreographers.
The students will describe their collaborative process for creating pieces inspired by pioneers of modern dance such as Isadora Duncan, Martha Graham and Paul Taylor, as well as more contemporary choreographers like Shen Wei, who choreographed the opening ceremony for the Beijing Olympics, or Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin, noted for his creation of Gaga Technique.
Performances are 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6 and 2 p.m. Dec. 7 in the NU Dance Room (located next to the pool) at 11761 Ridge Road, Grass Valley. Tickets are $7 general admission and are on sale at BriarPatch, the Bookseller and Harmony Books.
Students can purchase tickets in the NU Dance Room or at the Student Store.
Doors open 30 minutes prior to show time.
