‘Convergence’ opens in Nevada City

When is a painting done? When is the process of painting ever complete? According to Nevada City fine artist LeeAnn Brook, it is a continual experience. With a new show opening at Szabo Tasting Room in Nevada City called “Convergence,” Brook’s newest work explores merging her work in collage into to her contemporary landscape paintings. The opening reception is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Covering a range of styles, from abstract to more representational, all of Brook’s work is landscape-based. Using a multitude of reused materials, Brook starts by hand-altering her collage paper to create uniquely textured patterns. She then assembles the components into designs that resemble mountains, canyons, waterways and forests to name a few. By integrating the collage work into to the painting with layers of paint and staining textures, the forms ultimately converge into a vibrant landscape.

“It’s important to me that my art continue to evolve and change. Each time I work on a new painting, I am thinking about the next one and how I can use what I learn as a springboard to the next. I am fascinated with the exploration of color and textures in nature and thought the past few years of my work in collage would be perfect to dovetail into my landscape paintings,” reflects Brook.

The show at Szabo Tasting Room runs through Dec. 31. Szabo is open Thursdays through Sundays, noon to 6 p.m. and located at 316 Broad St. in Nevada City,

Brook will also show this series of paintings at the Artisans Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thanksgiving weekend at Miners Foundry, 325 Spring St. in Nevada City. To see more of her work, visit http:// leeannbrookfineart.com.
