Man beaten, robbed at gunpoint in Nevada City

A guest at a Nevada City Inn was beaten and robbed at gunpoint in his room over the weekend by three unidentified men.

The 20-something Texas man said he was lying in bed Saturday morning at the Nevada City Inn on the 700 block of Zion Street when he heard a knock at his door at approximately 4 a.m., according to the Nevada City Police Department.

The victim looked out his window and saw three men at the door and could see they were talking but could not hear what was said, reported Nevada City Police Officer Scott Goin.

“The victim stated the subjects looked harmless, so he opened the door,” Goin said in an email to The Union.

Upon opening the door, the three subjects pushed their way into the room and said, “they were there to party,” Goin reported. One of three suspects said he had brought the “beer and weed,” and another made himself comfortable and began rolling a marijuana cigarette.

According to Goin, the first of the three suspects was described as a short, chubby, white male with a bald head and tattoos. The second man was described as about 5 feet, 10 inches, with dark hair and dark skin, possibly of Middle Eastern descent. The third suspect was described as a tall black man who was bald and wearing glasses.

The victim said the black suspect exited the room only to return shortly with a hunting-style shotgun and pointed it at the victim, ordering him to the ground, Goin reported. The three suspects then reportedly began to beat the victim.

Afterward, the suspects fled the scene with the victim’s belongings, possibly in a dark-colored sedan and a dark-colored SUV, Goin stated.

The victim called law enforcement at approximately 4:20 a.m. — both Nevada City and Grass Valley police responded to the scene, Goin reported. The incident is currently under investigation.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Nevada City Police Department at 530-265-2626.
