A Missouri fugitive wanted on child porn charges was arrested early Friday morning after a Grass Valley Police officer found him sleeping in a ditch.
The officer, who was on patrol, found a man sleeping on a mattress in a ditch off Gates Place at about 1 a.m., said Sgt. Steve Johnson.
The man was identified as Luke Lamar Liker, 31, a fugitive with a warrant for his arrest from Greene County, Mo.
“I don’t know what brought him here,” Johnson said.
Liker was being held without bail in Wayne Brown Correctional Facility and is set to be arraigned Monday.
Liker was initially arrested in Springfield, Mo., in 2009 after a neighbor bought a laptop computer from him and allegedly discovered pornographic images and videos of children. Investigators reportedly also discovered Liker had shared the images on the Internet.
A warrant was issued for Liker and he was arrested 10 months later in Monroe, La. He spent a little more than two months in jail in Greene County, then bailed out after his bond was reduced from $15,000 to $7,500. Another warrant reportedly was issued for Liker’s arrest when he failed to show up for court.
“He was caught in Nevada County once before,” said U.S. Marshal Darren Lane. “There was some problem with his extradition, and he was released from jail and was back out on the streets.”
According to Nevada County Superior Court records, Liker was arraigned in Truckee on Nov. 6, 2012, on a fugitive-from-justice warrant. Liker apparently tried to conceal his identity, stating his name was Louis Alexander Parker. On Nov. 21, 2012, a hearing was held and Liker was positively identified.
A rendition hearing was held on Feb. 19, but even though a warrant reportedly had been issued from Missouri, it was never received.
Because 91 days had elapsed since Liker had been taken into custody, the judge dismissed the matter and he was released.
According to Lane, the U.S. Marshal subsequently re-issued the warrant.
“We began looking for him, but it was difficult because he didn’t appear to have any ties,” Lane said.
