Off Broadstreet reprises ‘Legends To Go’

Off Broadstreet Theatre in Nevada City will bring back its production of “Legends To Go” to its Nevada City stage this weekend.

The play opens at 8:15 p.m. Friday with opening night festivities, including champagne after the performance.

In “Legends To Go,” four socially awkward people have failed assertiveness training at the Medina Institute for Personal Growth — twice. In order to preserve its reputation, the institute has given the four a final assignment to hire themselves out as celebrity impersonators as a way of using “borrowed identities” to overcome their social phobias. The plan produces some unexpected results.

Following the completion of the final assignment, they decide to start their own on-call celebrity impersonation business called “Legends To Go.”

The group is so successful in this endeavor that it is soon inundated with requests to perform. Unfortunately, their lack of assertiveness resurfaces, making them unable to say “no” to any assignment. What follows is a mad-cap 10 minute collage of 17 different celebrities and groups as the frantic performers scramble around to various locations around town.

“Legends To Go” features the talents of OBS regulars Darin Driscoll, Liz Larsen and Darryl Stines, as well as returning favorite Tony Lauria.

The play is a full evening of familiar hit tunes from the past 50 years and zany impressions of three dozen of the colorful artists who made the songs famous, including Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, Sammy Davis Jr., Willie Nelson, Liza Minelli, Bob Dylan, Buddy Holly, Jim Morrison, Joe Cocker, Elvis, Tina Turner and a host of others. Lots of laughs and music for all ages, according to John Driscoll of OBS.

Performances are at 8:15 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Aug. 17. There is a 2 p.m. matinee show July 21 for $23. All other tickets are $25 per person. To reserve, call 530-265-8686.
