Domestic violence suspect allegedly found with pot, meth

A Grass Valley man being sought in connection with a domestic violence incident ended up in jail on drug charges as well Saturday.

Jesse Sanchez Alvarado, 40, allegedly pushed his girlfriend during a dispute and eventually was located at a motel on Highway 49, said Nevada County Undersheriff Joe Salivar.

The deputy noticed what appeared to be a high-capacity magazine on the floorboard of his vehicle, Salivar said. What looked like an AK-47 was actually an Air-Soft gun, but Alvarado allegedly had covered the orange tip of the gun with black tape.

During a pat-down search, Alvarado allegedly made a spontaneous confession, saying, “I’ve got weed.”

Deputies found more than 1 pound of marijuana, as well as more in a mason jar and in a plastic grocery bag.

“He said he was selling it for gas to get back to Stockton,” Salivar said.

Alvarado also allegedly had .07 grams of methamphetamine.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale, possession of a controlled substance and spousal abuse and was being held in county jail in lieu of $10,750 bail.

A man allegedly selling pot at the rodeo also was arrested Saturday.

Sheriff’s deputies were at the Penn Valley Rodeo with undercover officers from the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, looking for any alcohol violations, Salivar said.

While walking around, they allegedly saw a hand-to-hand drug transaction involving a man identified as Todd James Hughes, 31.

Later, they saw Hughes again and conducted an undercover buy, purchasing $20 worth of marijuana from him, Salivar said.

After deputies arrested Hughes, they allegedly found more than 1 gram of marijuana, as well as a half-gram of hashish.

Hughes was booked into county jail on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale, possession of hashish and being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was being held in lieu of $11,000 bail.
