Saturday the Haven Underground, in association with The Do Lab, will present HeartBassed, a monthly House Music and dance party, featuring some of the best up-and-coming electronic artists from around the world! HeartBassed Volume 1 features famed Dirtybird Records’ latest addition J. Phlip via Detroit, along with Patricio by way of Los Angeles via Argentina, both of whom are traveling to the Foothills directly from Coahella, plus local beatmaker Bass Cadet who originally hails from Stolkholm. Three talented electronic artists dedicated to setting the scene and making you move.
J Phlip (pronounced J Flip) known to some as Jessica Phillipe discovered house music in her hometown of Champaign, Ill., just two hours south of Chicago. Sometime around her 19th birthday she got her first DJ rig – two belt drive turntables and a mixer lacking EQ knobs for $100 bucks. From then on, her poor roomates were forced to listen to a constant dance party in-between her Systems Engineering studies. There aren’t a lot of 4.0 brainiac engineering majors who decide to become DJs instead of cashing in on their degrees but she truly loves the music and has dedicated her life to it, according to her bio.
She’s currently a DJ/Producer in San Francisco. Her skills on the decks and in the studio have secured her highly desirable spot as an official member of the dirtybird crew. She has a residency at San Francisco’s infamous Endup nightclub, which is notorious for its non-stop, never-ending parties. For more about J Phlip go to http://www.dirtybirdrecords.com/j-phlip/.
The energy level always rises when Patricio steps behind the tables. Drawing on the passion and soul instilled in him growing up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Patricio will make you dance with no holds barred.
Patricio came to Los Angeles in the late ‘80s, and immediately discovered electronic music. He spent a year of letting loose to the music that was being played at local underground clubs and parties. Once Patricio had amassed enough vinyl he began to make the underground club circuit, starting in 1992 at a Los Angeles popular after hours gig called Cafiend where he was playing with one of his favorite djs, DJ Dan, on Saturdays and was one of the original djs at Insomniac on Fridays all while sharpening his skills with wax.
He has shared the stage with numerous internationally acclaimed DJs while making his way through the California electronic music scene. A major turning point occurred in 2002 when Patricio made his first pilgrimage to Black Rock City, Nev. for Burning Man. Truly inspired by this experience, Patricio decided to take his music in a direction that reflected his new found connection.
As he developed his new style, drawing influence from a wealth of musical genres, Patricio went on to tour the world with The Dolab, an artist collective from Los Angeles.
From Argentina to Japan, he has rocked dancefloors with djs like Stanton Warriors, Koma and Bones, Lee Burridge, Thievery Corporation, Layo and Bushwacka just to name a few, and rattled a few bass bins in festivals like Coachella, Nocturnal, All Points West and the infamous Electric Daisy Carnival. Born in Stockholm, Sweden while his parents were on tour, Bass Cadet was immediately submersed into the world of music. He spent his youth playing in bands with his brothers and at the age of 12 he discovered the guitar. At the age of 19 he played lead guitar and opened for high profile groups such as Cake and the Def Tones. In later years he had the opportunity to co-produce an album with Peter DiStefano from Porno For Pyros. Bass Cadet stepped into the scene like most electronic heads by staying up until the sun rose in celebration of the music. He spent most nights of the week soaking up the grinding bass ridden beats of the broken beat sound. Because he grew up applying his knowledge of music theory, sound engineering and stage performance, he had a solid foundation from which to work. He has played with international dj’s such as Fort Knox Five, Bassnectar, Freq Nasty and Rennie Pilgrem. With the help of Yno5, for which he is the co-founder, the Purgatory Cruiser was brought to Burning Man 2006, 2008 and 2009 and to the San Francisco Love Parade/Fest for the past four years. The Purgatory Cruiser is a flame-throwing space-pod moon-rover of doom. It has raged Burning Man, Love Parade, Alpha Centauri, and your Optic Nerve. A fully mobile mad maxian fortress on wheels, with fold up wings, flame-pontoons, and a sound system that will blast you off your rocker. Check out http://soundcloud.com/bass-cadet for more.
