Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a full-throttle evening of rock music care of Floater, Lonely Kings, Dr. Luna and Downshift.
Portland, Ore., band Floater headlines Sunday’s festivities. The trio is known as much for its pulsating hard rock as it is for its legion of dedicated and zealous fans. Over the course of eight albums, Floater has expanded upon its original ’90s grunge rock to include elements of psychedelia, reggae, pop and even jazz.
From Seattle to Northern California, Floater fans come out in droves to attend the band’s intense and unforgettable live performances that can reach upward of two and a half hours long. In previous years, the band has performed locally to more than 450 people at outdoor performances at the North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center.
Joining Floater are The Lonely Kings, Nevada County natives now hailing from Sacramento. Over the past 15 years, the trio has played and toured with established acts such as AFI, Papa Roach, Sugar Cult, A Static Lullaby, the Misfits, the Bled and At the Drive In. The Lonely Kings are a longtime favorite group among locals and consistently deliver stellar performances that highlight their penchant for writing songs full of catchy hooks, power chords and pop melodies.
Dr. Luna is the local alternative hard rock band lead by Rachelle DeBelle. In the last two years since its inception, Dr. Luna has recorded and released one album with another scheduled to come out this spring. Last year, Dr. Luna toured across the U.S. to play a three-month residency in Austin, Texas.
Rounding out the bill is the local rock band Downshift. The trio’s diverse musical tastes range from outlaw country all the way to death metal and anything and everything in between. With great grooves, smooth lyrics and tasty licks, Downshift’s got a sound everyone can get into.
Sunday’s concert kicks off at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5. The $20 general admission tickets are available in person at the Nevada City Box Office and BriarPatch Co-op, by phone at 530-265-5462 or online at http://minersfoundry.org.
