Cecelia Frances Kane Fitzpatrick entered into rest in Grass Valley, Calif., Feb. 16, 2013, at the age of 82.
Visitation will be at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary, 459 Hollow Way, Nevada City on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Rosary will follow at 6:00 p.m. Mass will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grass Valley, CA on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. Cecelia will be interred alongside of Larry in a family ceremony at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Santa Rosa, CA
Beloved mother of Jim (Phyllis) Fitzpatrick of Roseburg, Ore., Dan Fitzpatrick of Coto de Caza, Calif., Michael J. (Jill) Fitzpatrick of Nevada City, and Gary L.(Kaysie) Fitzpatrick of Cota De Caza. Adored grandmother of six; Kelly, Jared, Mark, Erin, Emily and Ben Fitzpatrick.
Cecelia is survived by one brother, Jimmy (Diane) Kane and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cecelia is a graduate of Corning High School, Class of 1948, and Chico State University, Class of 1952. She earned her master’s of education degree from San Francisco State University. She began her elementary school teaching career in Santa Rosa, Calif., where she met Larry. She was married to Larry Fitzpatrick for 53 years. She also taught elementary school in Selma, Calif., for 25 years, culminating a teaching and administration career of over 40 years.
During their time in Selma, Cecelia and Larry also became proprietors in both the dry cleaning and hardware businesses. After retirement, they moved to Grass Valley in 1994 where Cecelia continued her educational career as a substitute teacher for Nevada Union High School.
During her life, she and Larry traveled around the world, and she continued her travels in recent years having recovered from a stroke in 2011, Cecelia and niece Terra completed a 2-week tour of Africa in the fall of 2012. She loved to see the world.
Cecelia was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grass Valley.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry on May 11, 2008; her parents, Dan and Madge Kane and one brother, Billy Dane.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper & Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City.
