Poets Laura Martin, Karin Stevens to speak

At 7:30 p.m. Wednesday the Nevada County Poetry Series will present poets Laura Martin and Karin Stevens.

“Martin and Stevens are among the leaders of a new generation of Northern California poets and writers who are roaring to the forefront of today’s literary world. They are fabulous. And we may get to hear the greatest Girl Scout cookie poem every written! I’m smiling just thinking about,” said Bill Gainer of the Nevada County Poetry Series.

Laura Martin is a freelance writer/photographer whose features, essays, poetry and images have appeared in such publications as Sacramento magazine, Solano magazine, Via magazine, the San Jose Mercury News, the Boston Globe, the San Francisco Chronicle, Susurrus, The Tule Review, Late Peaches: Poems by Sacramento Poets and Medusa’s Kitchen. She was the grand prize recipient of the second annual Pat Schneider Poetry Contest in 2012. As an Amherst Writers and Artists affiliate, Martin leads private writing workshops in the Sacramento area.

Karin Stevens is a freelance writer and editor from Sacramento. Her poetry, creative nonfiction and short stories have appeared in several Sacramento and Bay Area literary journals, including The Walrus and Susurrus, as well as in area zines such as WTF and Soul of the Narrator.

The reading and open mic will be video taped for presentation on NCTV, channel 11.

Tickets are available at the door for $5 general, seniors and students and $1 for those under 18. Refreshments and open mic included.
