Valentine’s to be largest ever day of action

On Thursday (Feb. 14) at The Center for the Arts and in downtown Grass Valley, the Nevada County Coalition of One Billion Rising will join in solidarity with communities across 197 countries around the world for One Billion Rising, the largest day of action in the history of Valentine’s Day, the global activist movement to end violence against women and girls.

The Nevada County Coalition of One Billion Rising will host a local celebration of a global movement Thursday. The free event will kick off with a flash mob and procession at 5:30 p.m. (meet up at downtown Grass Valley Safeway at 5:15 p.m.) and will move toward The Center for the Arts. The free all-ages V-Day celebration continues at The Center for The Arts, including a One Billion Rising reception at 6 p.m., featuring local artists, followed by the program at 7 p.m., featuring dance performances by Nevada City School of the Arts and Grass Valley Charter students, music by Lorraine Gervais, Kate Haight, Anni McCann, Neena McNair, The String Sisters, Heart & Kristen Strohm, spoken word, including Molly Fisk, Veronica Monet, Ernest Brown and Elle and a dance party with DJ Moss from 8:30-10 p.m. Available for purchase: food from Horn of the Bull Taqueria and In the Kitchen, plus wine, beverages, snacks and sweets

The Nevada County Coalition of One Billion Rising organizers consists of See Jane Do, DVSAC, SAVVY, The Center for the Arts, Jazzercise Grass Valley, Women Against the War on Women, One World Awake and Citizens for Choice with support from Women of Worth, Gather the Women and Rhythms Fitness.
