Lefty's Grill reopens in new Nevada City location

Lefty’s Grill has re-opened in its new location just a bit father down the street from its previous site in downtown Nevada City.

“We opened up (Tuesday), and everything went really smooth,” said John Cammack, who owns Lefty’s with Chris Duncan. “We had a really good night and good dinner at the restaurant.”

The new location at 101 Broad St. has improved restaurant and kitchen space, parking and added a patio, Cammack said.

“We always wanted a patio, and this place has a beautiful deck right on the creek, almost three times the seating and five times the kitchen space,” Cammack said. “And after 6 p.m., the entire parking lot next to us in Miner’s Village is ours, so it makes parking much easier on weekends.”

Lefty’s was formerly located at 221 Broad St. in the thick of downtown Nevada City, which means the new location likely won’t see as many people pass by on a regular basis.

“We’re definitely going to lose some foot traffic,” Cammack said. “The old spot was a great location, but we think people will follow it, and most of the merchants send everybody our way across the street.”

Lefty’s celebrated its five-year anniversary Tuesday and has built up a loyal client base, said Cathy Whittlesey, executive director of the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce.

“It probably is a difficult location, but if anybody can make it happen, Lefty’s can,” said Whittlesey. “They already have a following and a nice clientele and were turning people away because they didn’t have enough room. So I think they can make a go of it.”

With the benefits of the new location, Cammack said he is both hopeful and grateful for his customer base.

“We’re pretty excited about the move,” he said. “And grateful for all the customers that have supported us through the years and made this all possible.”
