Perfect pairings: Local gallery, tasting room join forces to showcase art, wine

The new year is full of promise for local businesses Grass Valley Wine Company and the Artists’ Studio in the Foothills (ASiF) Gallery as they announce a new relationship featuring the artists and wineries of Nevada County.

To kick off the collaboration, ASiF Gallery @ Grass Valley Wine Company presents the ASiF Winter Resident Artist Show featuring 42 artworks by 14 resident artists. This exhibit is on display now and will be celebrated with a closing reception from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the tasting room gallery.

ASiF Resident Artists include Michael Angell, Rebecca Bleau, Eileen Blodgett, Phil Brown, Odette Brush, Roseanne Burke, Susan Crocenzi, Heather deViveiros, Barbara Harris, Sarah CV Hendrickson, Jill Mahanna, Jean Patterson, Denise Wey and Kathryn Wronski.

Each of the resident artists in this exhibit creates his artworks at ASiF in his own private or shared studio space.

Grass Valley Wine Company is the cooperative tasting room and wine bar of three Nevada County wineries: Bent Metal, Pilot Peak and Solune. Each of these are family-owned and operated wineries, producing fewer than 3,000 cases of wine annually.

The three winery owners’ mutual vision for this downtown tasting room brings together the finest quality local wine, music and art, said ASiF Owner/Director Amanda Paoletti.

ASiF Gallery and Visual Arts Center is a 4,000-square-foot studio arts facility housing 15 private and shared artists’ studios, three community classrooms and a gallery to promote local emerging artists.

ASiF promotes those artists throughout the year in themed gallery shows and invites the public for seasonal open house events, featuring fine art demonstrations by visiting and resident instructors.

ASiF offers art classes for adults and children in painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, mosaics, mixed media and jewelry arts.

“The large and fabulous gallery walls at GV Wine Company are just what ASiF Gallery has dreamed of to expand its reach in promoting the several hundred local artists represented in themed gallery shows at its Idaho-Maryland Road location since 2008,” Paoletti said. “New ASiF Gallery @ Grass Valley Wine Company exhibits will be featured about every six weeks!”

Grass Valley Wine Company tasting room is open daily, from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday and 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday to Saturday.

Local live musicians are featured from 6 to 8 p.m. Fridays and 5 to 7 p.m. Saturdays.

This new venue is in addition to the events and exhibits and classes that will continue to take place at ASiF’s Idaho-Maryland Road location.

The artists welcome the public to come visit them in their studios as well to see them in action, learn about classes they offer and view more local artists’ work in the center’s gallery located at 940 Idaho-Maryland Road in Grass Valley.
