Creative writing classes with Patricia Dove Miller begin this month and feature a writing practice group and a workshop.
Birdsong: a writing practice group (based on Natalie Goldberg’s “Writing Down the Bones”), a cumulative series of short easy exercises. This practice group is designed to teach writers how to quiet the inner critic, delve into the unconscious, go deeper into writing and increase creativity. Writing practice helps you learn how to write, improve writing, overcome writer’s block or work out specific issues in a current project. It is for both beginning and experienced writers.
The first series runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 15 to Feb. 4, with registration due by Jan. 8. A second session goes from 10:30 a.m. to noon Jan. 17 to Feb. 7, with registration by Jan. 10.
Session 1: Tuesdays, 7-8:30 p.m., Jan. 15 to Feb. 4. (Register by Jan. 8.)
There will be additional four-week sessions in February and March.
There is also a creative writing workshop to teach how to begin a story or work on a draft in progress. Learn specific craft techniques to improve writing, and how to give and receive gentle feedback. For all genres: memoir, travel writing, short story, novel and essay. For all levels of experience. Includes one private consultation with the teacher. The second eight-week session is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays, March 20 to April 24. Registration is due by March 8.
