One man was hospitalized and his friend arrested when one of the men allegedly decided to end an argument by firing a gun, and then hitting the other man in the head with a crowbar.
Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies had responded to a residence in the 13000 block of Rocky Lane at about 1:30 a.m. Monday after a caller reported shots fired during an argument, said Sheriff Keith Royal.
As they arrived, they found the victim, a 36-year-old man whose identity was not released, in a vehicle being driven by another friend.
The man seemed unconscious and was bleeding from a large gash to the head.
According to the driver, the victim and Graham Matthew Bullock had been at the residence, playing a drinking game, and had consumed a large amount of alcohol, Royal said.
The two men allegedly began arguing and Bullock told his friend to leave.
When he refused, Bullock allegedly grabbed a black revolver and fired several shots outside in order to get him to leave.
After the victim continued to refuse to leave, both men “took up weapons,” Royal said, adding the victim grabbed a piece of chain and Bullock grabbed a metal object, according to the witness. Bullock then allegedly hit the victim in the head with the object.
The deputies called for medical assistance for the victim, who was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center. His condition was unavailable as of press time.
They then went to the residence, where they allegedly found a shirtless man identified later as Bullock outside in the rain, screaming and hitting trees with an object later determined to be a crowbar.
Bullock reportedly was ordered to drop the crowbar and get on the ground, and was arrested without incident.
A search of the residence allegedly turned up a .22 revolver in the bedroom, and spent cartridge casings on the kitchen floor.
After Bullock was arrested, a search at the jail allegedly uncovered two baggies in his front pocket; one contained part of an anti-anxiety pill for which he did not have a prescription, and the other a white substance that has not yet been identified, Royal said.
Bullock was arrested on suspicion of battery causing serious bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, committing a felony while armed and possessing a controlled substance for sale.
He was released on $25,500 bail.
