Hear the children sing ‘Our Sweetest Songs’

“Our Sweetest Songs” is the theme of the concert set for Saturday by the Foothill Children’s Chorus in Grass Valley. This chorus, which has been called a “unique foothills treasure,” will inspire you with Christmas music from across the centuries and around the globe.

Members will sing traditional carols in Latin, German, Spanish and the language of the Huron Indians of Quebec, Canada. They also will sing Gregorian chants, lullabies and music by Bach, Britten and Bernstein. Their performance culminates in a medieval mystery play depicting the first Christmas.

The children perform at 7 p.m. Saturday and again at 3 p.m. Jan. 6 (Twelfth Night). Both performances are at Peace Lutheran Church, 828 W. Main St., Grass Valley, near downtown.

Tickets are at The Book Seller in downtown Grass Valley, foothillchildrenschorus10@gmail.com and (530) 272-6566. Cost is $15 for adults, $5 for children.

Interested in having your child sing fine music from around the world? Auditions for new members will take place in January in preparation for the spring concert. Call Musical Director Catherine Dowling, (530) 272-8848, to set up an appointment. Scholarships are available.
