Plan Tahoe trips around construction

Summer construction plans are already under way for Truckee and the Tahoe Basin, and the orange signs already are dotting regional highways and delaying commuting motorists.

Below is a list of major construction projects from the California and Nevada departments of transportation to help drivers plan their routes this summer by allowing extra time for commutes or by planning alternate routes.

Interstate 80

Project: Construct shoulder barrier along the eastbound direction.

Locations on roadway: Between Farad, Calif., and Nevada state line.

Estimated project start date: Currently underway.

Estimated project end date: Mid- to late-July.

Time of construction: Day and night shifts, Monday through Thursday.

Traffic impacts: Closure of shoulder and Lane No. 2 eastbound - no work on the westbound lanes.

Authority: Caltrans.

Project: To preserve surface of concrete with a more durable concrete asphalt surface.

Locations on roadway: Donner Park interchange in Truckee to the Truckee River bridge.

Estimated project start date: Early summer.

Estimated project end date: Late fall.

Time of construction: Day and night shifts, Monday through Thursday.

Traffic impacts: One lane closure at various locations.

Authority: Caltrans.

Project: To preserve bridge decks at various locations.

Locations on roadway: There are about two dozen locations between Roseville and the Nevada state line.

Estimated project start date: Early summer.

Estimated project end date: Fall.

Time of construction: Day and night shifts, Monday through Friday. No work on weekends.

Traffic impacts: One lane closure at various locations.
