Land trust treks coming up in Aug.

Bear Yuba Land Trust will trek to Blue Lake and the Gold Lakes Basin in early August.

Blue Lake and Beyond will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 3. This will be the Bear Yuba Land Trust’s fifth annual trek to Blue Lake in memory of John Skinner – hike leader and supporter of BYLT. This outing has it all: views, history and a swimming lake. The trek begins by heading up Zion peak for a look at four lakes, then a hike over ancient seabeds and granitic outcroppings to a historic mining ditch, which will lead hikers to a petroglyph site. On the way back, there will be an opportunity to take a dip in Blue Lake to cool off and freshen up. The hike is approximately six miles and considered moderate.

There is a suggested donation of $12 for BYLT members and $17 for the general public.

BYLT will offer Nature Playshop in Gold Lakes Basin from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 9. Cal Naturalist Susan Sanford will take participants on an inner and outer exploration of nature while enjoying the beauty of the Gold Lakes Basin area.

Hikers may end the day with a snack and beverage at the Gray Eagle Lodge (additional cost: $8). This hike is also considered moderate.

There is a suggested donation of $12 for BYLT members and $17 for the general public.

To register for either hike, visit www.BearYubaLand Trust.org, call 530-272-5994 ext. 200 or email melony@bylt.org.
