Engage the Arts to benefit NU program

Henry James writes, “It is art that makes life, makes interest, makes importance…and I know of no substitute whatever for the force and beauty of its process.” This Friday, Nevada Union High School’s visual art department students and NU ART, will host Engage the Arts, the program’s annual fundraiser. Their goal is to not only feature and sell their artwork in a gallery setting, but is to also include guests in hands on art projects. Basically, it is a high energy celebration of art in all forms, and it is a great way to entertain the family on a Friday night, according to organizers.

Regardless of budget cuts, NU has maintained a thriving visual arts program, continuing to purchase expensive art supplies, and taking art-centered field trips, with the yearly proceeds from this event. Last year, Ben Franklin sponsored the first art scholarship for an NU graduate pursuing art at a college level. The current scholarship nominees will be featured at the event.

Engage the Arts runs from 5:30-9 p.m. Friday at Miner’s Foundry Cultural Center in Nevada City. A ticket includes appetizers, wine and beer tasting, bidding on silent auction and raffle items, live music performances, and participation in many art activities — from learning to throw on a pottery wheel, to participating in a photo booth, to a parking lot raku firing. Local wineries will include Nevada City Winery, Avanguardia and Lucchesi Vineyards, and breweries Ol’ Republic, Auburn Alehouse, and Fiftyfifty Craft Brewery are showing their support at the evening’s tasting. Tickets are $25 for adults, and $15 for students, and can be purchased at the door.

The NU visual arts department faculty, students, and parents invite you to share in this active, unique, inclusive experience.
