Tea to celebrate ‘Elder Activists’ Saturday

On Saturday, the 12th annual Gather the Women International Women’s Day Celebration will take place at the Unity in the Gold Country Spiritual Center in Grass Valley.

A tea at 2 p.m. will honor our community’s “Elder Activists.” This year, Gather the Women is changing the venue of the celebration to a more intimate tea setting.

“The purpose is to create a personal space in which to express gratitude for the leadership, hard work, and service of our community’s elder activists. They are heroines whose wisdom and actions have far-reaching impacts,” said Nancy Naumann, GTW Regional Coordinator.

Women being honored are Darlene Paulsen, AAUW; Eleanor Reed, Soroptimists; Janice O’Brien, Sierra Roots; LaNell Lee, Soroptimists; Pat Poggi,DVSAC; and Sylvia Osman, GTW.

The gamut of their leadership runs from educating about global issues, fundraising for local nonprofits, teaching meditation, feeding the hungry, providing salon services, helping break the patterns of domestic violence, peace activism, and creating spaces for women to literally transform their lives.

The tea’s “tone” will be set with lyrical music from Lisa Stine, harpist and Phyllis Grant, flutist. Nevada Union’s Chamber Choir will perform. The afternoon’s entertainment will be completed by pianist, Caroline Bronson, a senior at Nevada Union.

A follow-up Circle Creation meeting is planned for April 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Madelyn Helling Library on Highway 49 at Maidu in Nevada City.

Anyone inspired to create a new circle, has a passion for which they seek support, or is looking for a way to connect with other women should attend.

Unity in the Gold Country Spiritual Center is at 180 Cambridge Court in Grass Valley. Admission is $14 and includes tea fare. For more information call 530-272-2402, or visit www.GathertheWomenNC.org,
