The Artist Studio in the Foothills will open its sixth and largest Smallworks in the Foothills Holiday Show Friday. The annual event features hundreds of original, one-of-a-kind works of art by more than 74 local artists — paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, mixed-media art, jewelry, wood, glass and sculptural and functional works of art, all under 12 inches in scale.
“Smallworks walls are a bit contagious and seem to be catching on as a creative practice by local collectors,” said Amanda Paoletti, owner, director of ASiF, “A few of our best customers have described their own smallworks walls. In fact, early this spring, I had the pleasure of being invited to lunch at Hindi Greenberg’s house. She’s one of our very best smallworks patrons, and what a thrill it was to see her many purchases from these shows over the years, all of which are displayed beautifully on the walls in her house!”
Hindi prides herself as a collector of fine local artists’ works (She also writes theater reviews for Prospector; see two of her entries in this edition).
“I have so much art in my house, a new piece has to be small to fit on my walls! In fact, I’m now at the point where if I want more, I’ll have to put it in the limited wall space above the windows and doors!”
Hindi moved from San Francisco to Nevada County 12 years ago and continues to run her national career consulting business, Lawyers in Transition. She is active in the nonprofit community, having served as president of the board and active volunteer for the Center for the Arts, as a board member and head usher for Music in the Mountains, and is a board member for InConcert Sierra. She also chairs the Women’s Group for the Gold Country Welcome Club.
ASiF will host an artist reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday for the Smallworks show. The Smallworks Holiday Show will hang as an ever changing exhibit now through Jan. 8.
