Ross, Sioux, Trudeau perform Saturday

A line-up of local singer/songwriters is set to take the stage Saturday at St. Joseph’s Cultural Center in Grass Valley. Aaron Ross, Marie Sioux and Pregnant, aka Daniel Trudeau, will perform beginning at 8 p.m.

While much of Ross’ music focuses on the mythical America with it’s broken dreams, bucolic family moments and unprecedented military power, there is a sly thread of humor running through his work that’s often underestimated. Song titles like “The Beast Of Both Worlds,” “Enemy Of The State Of Mind” and “In Through The Out Of Order Door” hint at playfulness. With a poet’s penchant for wordplay and a wide-eyed attitude toward music production, Ross has earned a place among Nevada County’s gifted musicians and songwriters.

Mariee Sioux is an American folk singer-songwriter. Her father, Gary Sobonya, is a mandolin player of Polish and Hungarian descent, and her mother, Felicia, is of Spanish, Paiute and indigenous Mexican descent. She grew up in Nevada City, where she wrote verses since she was a young child. She has toured through North America and Europe

Daniel Trudeau, otherwise known as Pregnant, makes mutant pop songs that give off traces of The Residents’ most accessible material filtered through some electro and glitch elements.

Pregnant is called so because it is so: It is the audible rendering of the reflective, kaleidoscopic ideas ceaselessly gestating in the mind of Placerville artist Daniel Trudeau.

Tickets to Saturday’s show are $10 at the door. St. Joseph’s Cultural Center is located at 410 S. Church St. For information, call 530-272-4725 or visit
