This Friday the Old 5Mile House takes a step back in time, transforming its lounge to a Prohibition-era Speakeasy featuring burlesque and swingin’ Dixie jazz. Beginning at 10 p.m., local troupe the Bow-Tie Beauties Burlesque will perform with the big band stylings of Earles of Newtown. Following the old tradition of a high-class speakeasy, attendees are required to dress in a coat and tie for men, and evening dress for women. A password given to guests with a ticket purchase is also required to enter the event.
Earles of Newtown will kick the night off with their 1920s inspired fusion of Texas swing, jugband jazz and Dixieland madness. The band has drawn a lot of attention this year with a dazzling lineup of top-notch musicians. This special evening will feature musical director/vocalist Josh Earle Ford on trumpet, along with players Chad Conner Crow, “Texas” Dave Wilcox, Gilbert Anthony, Doug Bianchi, Joe Fajan, Jim Trefethen, Randy McKean, Ty Smith and, joining the band to perform a few saucy seasonal tunes, local vocalist Kate Haight.
Bow-Tie Beauties Burlesque will perform dance pieces to live music throughout the evening. This dance troupe’s reputation has boomed since its successful series of performances, including the most recent sold out Rocky Horror Burlesque Show in Grass Valley last October. Their sultry and tasteful dance style with their usual sassy blend of curves and comedy is sure to warm this winter night of festivities.
The Old 5Mile House bar will also offer exclusive gourmet hors d’oeuvres and cutting-edge, artisanal cocktails to accompany the speakeasy theme as the DL Lounge.
“We are offering a slice of heaven on what some people have been calling ‘doomsday.’ A splendid night to enjoy top-notch food, drink and entertainment,” said Earles of Newtown bandmember, Chad Conner Crow.
