Roots-music prodigy Sarah Jarosz will bring her skills on banjo, guitar and mandolin to Grass Valley Sunday in a performance at the Center for the Arts.

Since signing to Sugar Hill Records at age 16, Jarosz has barely stopped to catch her breath.

Rolling Stone has compared her to Gillian Welch, Mojo labeled her a "newgrass prodigy" and the New York Times hailed her as "one of acoustic music's finest talents."

Now at 22, Jarosz has a new album of 11 songs, "Build Me Up From Bones" that came to fruition as she finished college at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.

Her third record remained at No. 1 on the Americana chart for six weeks and picked up two Grammy Award nominations for Best Folk Album and Best American Roots Song for the title track.

"I feel like I've grown as a person, especially in these last few years. I latched onto music as a child and it became my main way of expressing myself. But through college I got into other creative outlets: art, painting and poetry. It helped me to come back to music in a deeper way, to follow deeper trails and meanings and feelings," she said.

On the record, she covers harpist Joanna Newsom's song, "The Book of Right-On" and Bob Dylan's "Simple Twist of Fate." More songs on "Build Me Up From Bones" were cut live than on any of her past studio efforts.

Accompanying her is Alex Hargreaves on violin and Nat Smith on cello. The trio has toured together for the past four years.

The native of Austin, Texas, has had three chart-topping bluegrass solo albums and has worked with Alison Krauss and Jerry Douglas.

Recently Jarosz was featured on the PBS concert show "Austin City Limits" with The Milk Carton Kids. In June, Jarosz and company will perform at Bonnaroo before taking their tour to England's Cambridge Folk Festival in August.

Tickets to the 7:30 p.m. Sunday concert are $20 for members of the Center, $22 for the general public and are available at the Center's Box Office in person, by phone at 530-274-8384, ext. 14, online at http://www.thecenterforthearts.org or at BriarPatch Co-op.
