Three-time Grammy Award winner, bluesman Keb' Mo' will stop in Grass Valley tonight for a performance at the Veterans Building during a concert presented by the Center for the Arts. A limited number of tickets are still available.
Since the 1994 release of his self-titled debut, Keb' Mo' has been making critically acclaimed albums and bringing a fresh face to the blues and roots genres. In 1996, his second release, "Just Like You" won him the first of three Grammys.
Keb' Mo' is a three–time Grammy Award winner for Best Contemporary Blues Album and a key figure in the acclaimed 2003 PBS series, "Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues."
Keb' Mo' crafts old-fashioned acoustic blues with the soul of B.B. King and the passion of John Lee Hooker. An accomplished frontman as well as trained bandmate, Mo' is known for his interpretation of jazz, blues and rock through the acoustic guitar. He is known for his genre-blending artfulness, intuitive lyrics, unique guitar style, distinctive voice, and magnetic stage charisma.
"I think what makes a great guitar player is the conviction and connection with the instrument. Your instrument is the communicator of what's in your soul, so the instrument can only play what you put in it," he said.
In addition to Grammies, Keb' Mo' has been recognized with a vast number of honors during his 18-year career, BMI awards and numerous WC Handy Blues Awards.
He has created television theme songs for: Touched By An Angel, The West Wing, The Martha Stewart Show and CBS's Mike and Molly. He has appeared on Sesame Street and acted alongside Danny Glover in the 2007 John Sayles film, "Honeydripper."
He has appeared in two PBS specials: "Live at Infinity Hall," and "Red, White and Blues, In Performance at The White House."
His release, "The Reflection" was the first new studio album by Keb Mo since "Suitcase" in 2006. His much-anticipated album, "BluesAmericana" was released independently April 22.
On "The Reflection" Keb' Mo' brought together many of his diverse influences – pre–disco R&B, American folk and gospel, rock, blues – in a sound uniquely his own. Vince Gill, India Arie and veteran session guitarist David T. Walker made appearances on the recording.
"I worked on this record for the better part of two years," says Keb'. It's the culmination of all of my influences throughout my career."
Tickets for the 8 p.m. show are $38 for member of the Center, $48 for the general public and are available at the Center's Box Office in person, by phone at 530-274-8384 ext. 14, online at http://www.thecenterforthearts.org or at BriarPatch Co-op.
