WHAT: Summer Solstice Concert and Flea Market to benefit SPIRIT’s programs
WHEN: 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 21
WHERE: SPIRIT Peer Empowerment Center at 276 Gates Place, Grass Valley, CA
TICKETS: $5 admission at the gate, (no one turned away for lack of funds.)
Spirit Peer Empowerment Center will present the first in a series of summer concerts with four local musical acts, a flea market for shopping, and food vendors Saturday.
Vocalists Mike Tatum, Jeffrey Wanzer Dupra, Chad Conner Crow and Grace Fae will each perform a set throughout the summer solstice celebration starting at 4 p.m. on the outdoor stage of the Spirit Center in Grass Valley.
Members of the Sierrabillys, Mike Tatum and "Banjo" Dave Carroll will open the day's festivities with a sweet blend of poetic folk, country and rock.
Jeffrey Wanzer Dupra is next on the bill performing original works from his new album, Headlines, as well as originals from previous projects. His sets are written and performed intuitively which makes every performance unique and unpredictable. His acoustically driven songs have storytelling qualities that have been described as potent, fresh and "from the heart."
Chad Conner Crow is currently a vocalist in three bands in Nevada County: Earles of Newtown, Grease Grit and Grime and Ear Wrecked. Performing jazz, blues and heavy metal gives his performances flexibility and a spontaneity that pushes his theatrical sets into a fusion of wisdom and weirdness. His show will feature special guests from his bands and other local acts.
Singer/songwriter/actress/multi-instrumentalist Grace Fae will close the show with a jazz trio featuring Jerome Ali on guitar and Dylan Sherwood McConnell on upright bass. Fae is known for her stage presence and chameleon-like ability to shift musical genres from classical opera to sultry jazz to good-old-girl country.
Spirit Center celebrates 10 years as a nonprofit offering free peer counseling and support groups for those facing mental challenges. This outdoor fund-raising event will feature food vendors, activities and a flea market for shopping during the concert. There is a $5 cover at the gate, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
